Using HVAC to pay for my haunted houses

Running a haunted house isn’t my job, it’s just a passion.

I work a normal job, blue collar, 45 to 50 hours a week, all year round.

I never use any vacation days, because I save them up for October, when I like to hit the pause button on work and focus on making and running the best haunted house in this end of the state. I’ve done it for twelve years now, every year better than the last, and it is honestly what I live for. If I could do it for a living I would walk away from my job as an HVAC tech in a heartbeat, but that’s not likely to happen. You may not know this, but being a certified HVAC tech carries with it some pretty sweet career opportunities, while doing a haunted house provides one month per year of work, if that! Thats why HVAC is my life, but haunted houses are my passion, that drive me to keep making money so I can have the freedom to do what I love. Not many jobs offer the kind of flexibility to just take a whole month off, but my bosses at the HVAC dealership are very supportive. They even sponsor the event, by promoting in the store and on their HVAC website, and all my coworkers come and check out the finished product. I guess now that I think about it, my little HVAC team is more like a family than a business, which is something else the haunted house can’t really give me.
