Picking season is always cold

Picking season is always cold

I have to travel every year up north to help my father out; She is a grape farmer and picking season is in the fall.

My father never has enough people on staff to handle picking and needs to call me to lend in an extra pair of hands.

I drive the picker, test sugar and box the grapes for a few weeks. It is long minutes of back cutting work. I get hardly any sleep, no food and bathroom breaks are few and far between. What especially smells is picking season is during a northern fall. The fall weather could be appealing, however it never is. Typically I can occasion grapes in rain and chilly chilly temperatures. I have even done a picking season in the snow before. The northern chilly comes quick and is harsh. My parents are hardcore about heating as well, however despite it being chilly cold, I believe that the family oil furnace will not be running yet. They don’t run their oil furnace until Thanksgiving, no matter what. The 2 of them can handle temperatures as low as 60 degrees without even flinching. I am now a soft southern girl. When the temperatures drop to 75 and below, on comes my oil furnace device. I don’t see the point in waiting. My parents however don’t want to call a Heating and A/C dealer to repair the oil furnace until later in the season. They also don’t want to pay for heating earlier in the year since their chilly season is so long. I guess I can understand that. In the south my Winter chilly is only about a few weeks.
